Bishop celebrates communion at Belton Church

Bishop Graham, the Bishop of Norwich was welcomed to Belton on Sunday 4th December to celebrate with the church and formally present the license for the use of Waveney School for worship.

In his introduction, the Bishop focussed on the message of the gospel, and pointed out that whilst the building was important, the Church was made up of people with a mission to the community.

Afterwards, he shared a meal with the whole Church at the Rectory and enjoyed the friendship and fellowship.

It is now three years since the sunday services moved to the school, and the vision of a church planted in the heart of the community was expressed with these words .... “Yesterday, this building was a village market place, tomorrow it will be a school, but today it is the Church - a meeting place for Christians to worship.’

Remembrance Day 2005

The annual act of remembrance took place in a combined service with Belton and Burgh Castle at Belton Church on Sunday 13th November 2005. In a moving and solemn service, all ages took part with the elderly sharing their memories of their experiences in the war.

Members of the youth group read out the role of honour and presented flowers to remember the servicemen who died in the two world wars and subsequent conflicts. Children from the middle school group read out part of the sermon and the youngest gave out ‘prayer posies’ to the elderly.

... we will remember them ....

Belton’s big bonfire

The annual bonfire night party at the rectory proved to be another successful evening for the village. An estimated 900 people watched as the bonfire burnt and a impressive firework display sparkled overhead satisfying our Rector’s pyromania for another year!

A small army of volunteers provided enough food and drink throughout the evening to keep everyone happy.

Thanks to everyone who gave up their time to prepare and help make this such an enjoyable evening

Harvest success raises over £600

This year’s harvest festival raised over £600 for the Niger appeal. As part of the Harvest festival service, produce was auctioned. No-one got a bargain! a pavlovas for £23, lemon cake for £35, flapjacks for £12 and a cabbage for £16!

For those who couldn’t afford these ridiculous prices, some of the food was sold separately enabling the whole congregation to take part

All good fun, but the serious point is that every penny raised will be sent to Tear fund who are working in the Niger. It’s right and proper that as we thank God for the good things we have been given, we also remember others who are desperately in need. As God has given to us extravagantly, so it’s a privilege to be able to give extravagantly to others.

Thank you to all concerned
